Elwyn Seeks a Charge Nurse to provide clinical leadership, nursing education, and direct support to the Adult Behavioral Health Programs and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams across Delaware. This role ensures high-quality nursing practice, promotes clinical excellence, supports regulatory compliance, and reinforces a therapeutic, recovery-oriented environment for the individuals we serve. The Charge Nurse serves as a skilled resource and mentor for program nurses, provides LLAM (Limited Lay Administration of Medication) training to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), and may provide on-site nursing coverage in program homes when needed.

Job Description
Elwyn Seeks a Charge Nurse to provide clinical leadership, nursing education, and direct support to the Adult Behavioral Health Programs and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams across Delaware. This role ensures high-quality nursing practice, promotes clinical excellence, supports regulatory compliance, and reinforces a therapeutic, recovery-oriented environment for the individuals we serve. The Charge Nurse serves as a skilled resource and mentor for program nurses, provides LLAM (Limited Lay Administration of Medication) training to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), and may provide on-site nursing coverage in program homes when needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership & Support
- Serve as the primary clinical nursing lead for all Delaware sites, offering guidance and expertise in behavioral health and psychiatric nursing care.
- Support program nurses with complex clinical situations, medication management, assessments, and care coordination.
- Provide direct nursing coverage in a program home during call-outs, vacations, or identified staffing needs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to promote integrated, person-centered care.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with state regulations, agency policies, and best-practice standards.
- Education & Training
- Provide LLAM training and competency assessments for DSPs across program homes.
- Offer ongoing nursing education, skills coaching, and professional development for nursing staff.
- Develop or assist in updating nursing protocols, teaching materials, and clinical competencies.
- Support orientation and onboarding for new nurses and clinical staff.
- Program & Site Support
- Travel regularly to all six Delaware sites to maintain a visible and supportive presence.
- Monitor and support clinical workflows, documentation practices, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with site leadership to identify clinical needs, implement solutions, and support program growth.
- Assist with audits, incident reviews, and follow-up training or corrective actions as needed.
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Role model professional nursing standards, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Nursing, Program Directors, and ACT leadership.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and supportive work environment for all team members.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Delaware or Compact MSL is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in behavioral health or psychiatric care required.
- Leadership, nurse charge, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in adult behavioral health, ACT, community-based care, or residential programs, highly valued.
- Prior experience providing clinical training or education preferred.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral health diagnoses, psychopharmacology, and crisis management.
- Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound clinical decisions.
- Commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed care.
- Comfortable with routine travel throughout the state.
